God, You told us You’d
bless us—
And how blessed we
are!—
While we pray for a
child
You work in our
hearts.
It amazes us when we stop to think about all that God has
blessed us with already. Even while our minds are filled by thoughts of what we
do not have—those blessings that we want
but lack—our Heavenly Father reminds us of what He has blessed us with, namely His own Son, our wonderful Savior Jesus.
That by itself is enough to satisfy us
for eternity.
But God’s storehouse of blessing overflows in our lives
every day. As we pray to Him, trusting that He hears our prayers and answers
them, we realize how much He is using this time to bless us presently. Even while
we wait for a child, we experience the presence of God’s Spirit working within
us to make us more like our Lord. That sanctifying grace of God currently at
work in our hearts reminds us that God loves us enough to refine us, to shape
us, to teach and to grow us. And while the womb remains vacant, for this reason
our hearts are full of joy.
Thank You, Father,
for the eternal blessing of Your love which gave us the expensive blessing of
Jesus through Whom we know the ever-present blessing of Your Holy Spirit. Continue
to work in our hearts, that our lives may be a reflection of Christ. We ask in
His name. Amen.
~David
Love you both so much, thank you for sharing these thoughts! What great truth you've spoken here: Jesus is the ultimate blessing. It's, sadly, far too easy to forget that He is to be primary amidst all we have or don't have.
ReplyDeleteDavid, your dad reminded Celeste and I that our own children are on 'lend' from the Lord during the most recent parenting class. Though we love our kids with all our hearts, at the end of the day they are in the Lord's hand and He is far greater. No matter how much we try to hold onto them as our own, the Lord will place them where He wills. The concept of the 'lending' of children from the Lord is one that really struck a chord with me and helped me to more properly orient my heart around keeping Jesus central instead of our kids (here and now) or our desire for kids (back when we had a miscarriage with our first).
I was reminded of this as I was reading your post and thinking about your potential children. Though you don't know them yet, He already knows them completely. Though you cannot comprehend what they might look like, He already knows their faces, fingers, toes, voices, laughter, cries, hobbies- he knows them completely. What a comforting notion, to think of the Lord of Hosts knowing your children already, just waiting for the time that he has ordained to 'lend' them to you both as well.
While we cannot discern the will of God in this for you both, we can point to his excellent attributes and take comfort. He is a God of order. He is a God of compassion. He is a God who provides in the time he ordains and no sooner. He is a God who loves children. He is a God who loves you.
Continuing to pray, we love your family!
